Aquaculture output of July was estimated at 361,000 tons, a decrease of 1.1% compared with July last year. However, tota value of aquaculture production and exploitation in the first 7 months has increased over the same period in 2014.

It is currently rainy season, but the July weather is still favorable for fishing exploitation for Southern fishing season. According to MARD, the total estimated production in July reached 235,000 tons, an increase of 1.7% compared to the same period last year.

Thus, in the first 7 months of 2015, fishery exploitation value was estimated at 1.73 million tons, an increase of 4% from the same period last year. Estimated sea exploitation value reached 1.63 million tons, an increase 4,4% over the same period last year.

The organization of exploitation, purchasing, processing and consumption of tuna in sequence in 3 provinces of Binh Dinh, Phu Yen, Khanh Hoa has come into operation, but efficiency was not high. The reason lies on deficient information about fishing farm and markets, backward explotation and storage technology, slow implementation of logistics system construction, which reduced the value of products.

Production of big eyed, yellow tailed tuna of three key provinces of Binh Dinh, Phu Yen, Khanh Hoa was estimated at 12,889 tons. In particular, Phu Yen at 3,800 tons, an increase of 8.3% over the same period last year, Binh Dinh at estimated 6,089 tons, an increase of 5%, Khanh Hoa at estimated 3,000 tons, an increase of 1.2% from the same period last year.

Aquaculture production of July was estimated at 361,000 tons, a decrease of 1.1% from the same period last year. However, total aquaculture output of the first 7 months increased by 2.5% compared to last year, reaching 1,937 million tons.

Production and consumption of cat fish in the month has no positive signs, prices are unstable, leading to difficulties in traditional aquaculture of some provinces. Therefore, fish harvests of first 7 months decreased slightly over the same period last year (-0.2%), estimated at 598,735 tons.

However, to prepare materials for export for the year-end holidays, farming area tends to change more positively. Cat fish farming area of the first 7 months in the Mekong Delta provinces was estimated at 6,046 hectares, an increase of 2% over the same period. In particular, production area of Vinh Long increased by 4.6%, production decreased by 7.1%, production area of An Giang increased by 8.6%, production decreased by 23.3% .

Export in the month was difficult. Low prices of raw materials coupled with rising epidemic continued to affect production of brackish water shrimp in Mekong Delta provinces.

Specifically, production area of prawn was estimated at 574,000 hectares, an increase of 4.5% over the same period last year, output was estimated at 131,000 tons, a decrease of 3.7% compared to last year.

In Mekong Delta, the production area of prawn was estimated at 540,400 ha, an increase of 2.5% from the same period last year, production was estimated at 124,000 tonnes, a decrease of 8.1%. Some provinces have significantly reduced output such as Ca Mau (production fell by 13.5%) , Kien Giang (production fell by 3.3%), Ben Tre (production fell by 9.7%) compared to the same period last year.

White-legged shrimp production area was estimated at 45,600 ha, a decrease of 23.2%, output was estimated at 118,900 tons, a decrease of 11.6% from the same period last year.

In particular, area and production of white-legged shrimp in Mekong Delta in the first 7 months of 2015 fell by 23% compared to the same period last year. Specifically, production area was estimated at 39,100 ha, estimated output was at 84,900 tons. Some provinces show decrease in area and production such as Ben Tre (area decrease by 12.4%, production decreased by 17.2% ), Bac Lieu (area decrease by 38.1%, production decrease by 15.3%) compared to the same period last year.
