Gabriel Demombynes is Senior Economist in the Hanoi office of the World Bank, where he has worked on poverty issues sinceMarch 2013. Previously hehas worked in Nairobi on Kenya and South Sudan and before that inBank’s Latin America and Caribbean division.
He has led various Bank studies and published work in academic journals on poverty mapping, poverty and growth analysis, and the economics of crime. He has taught economic development at the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) and was Economic Policy Advisor to Howard Dean during his 2003-04 presidential campaign. Gabriel holds a Ph.D. in economics from the University of California-Berkeley and bachelor's degrees in civil engineering and humanities from the University of Texas at Austin.
