Mr.Thang worked as researcher during 32 years at the Institute of Economics (Vietnam Academy of Social Science) and Development Strategy Institute, Ministry of Planning and Investment before moving up to management position as president of Development Strategy Institute.

Mr. Thang had various experience in social-economic development projects as experts. He was also visiting professor at the Asian Centre (University of the Philippines, Manila), visiting research fellow at the Institute of Economic Research (Hitotsubashi University, Tokyo, Japan), National Institute for Research Advancement (NIRA), Tokyo, Japan, and Zentral Institute fur Wirtschenshaften in Academie of Scienses, Berlin, Germany.

He is the author and co-author of 30 books and 80 articles in economic reviews.

Mr.Thang earned his bachelor degree in English (Hanoi Foreign Language College) and Economics (Hanoi University). He also has his Ph.D in Economics (The Institute of Economic).
