Mr. Nguyen Quang Thai has been serving as a General Secrectary of the Vietnam Economic Association (VEA) since 2007, member of Advisory Group to the Vietnam Prime Minister since 2011 and member of National Committee of Sustainable Development and Competitiveness since 2012.

His research fields involve macroeconomic analysis, public investment and economic modeling and forecasting.

He received his Doctor in Mathematical Economics from the Vietnam Science and Technology Academy in 1979-1980 and Doctor Sc. (the 2^ndLevel) in Economics, Planning from the Moscow Economic University named Plekhanov in 1984-1986.

He was born in 1941 in Hanoi. From 1978 to 2007, he has been the Deputy Director, Director and Deputy Director General of the State Planning Commission (currently the Ministry of Planning and Investment) and Advisor to the Minister (2003-2007).
