Dr. Tien lectured at Danang Polytechnic University for 7 years, following by a 14 years working for National Institute for Science and Technology Policy and Strategy Studies (NISTPASS), Ministry Science and Technology, under different positions, i.e. researcher, deputy head and head of division, Deputy General Director of the Institute, and General Director the Institute. In the last 10 years (2004-2014), he was Deputy Minister for Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST). He was responsible for S&T policy and legislation, R&D activities in research institutions and universities, Nuclear S&T management, Nuclear and Radiation Safety management, etc.

Besides, Dr. Tien was also chairman of ASEAN COST (2009-2010), Deputy President for Vietnam UNESCO (2005-2014), First Chairman of Management Committee of National Foundation for Science and Technology Development (NAFOSTED), as the organizer for establishment of NAFOSTED (2007-2014), Head of teams for negotiation on "governmental agreements for peaceful nuclear energy cooperation” (2009-2014)

He had various publications and papers on Laws on Science and Technology, national strategy for development of Science and Technology, Technology market development, etc.

Mr. Le Dinh Tien earned his Bachelor degree in Economics Cybernetics (1977) and PhD in Economics (1989) both at the Kiev National University, Ukraine. He also had a Master degree in Development Studies at the Institute of Social Studies (ISS), The Netherlands (1993).

Dr. Tien is now retired and a senior advisor to the Minister of Science and Technology.
